Filmska adaptacija romana Victora Igoa i najpopularnijeg mjuzikla svih vremena “Jadnici” (Les Misérables) pod rediteljskom palicom oskarovca Toma Hoopera (“Kraljev govor”). Ulogu Jeana Valjeana tumači Hugh Jackman, oskarovca Russella Crowea gledamo u ulozi strogog policijskog inspektora Javerta, a glavnu postavu upotpunjuju Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Sacha Baron Cohen i Helena Bonham Carter. O popularnosti samog mjuzikla dovoljno govore podaci da ga je do sada pogledalo preko 60 miliona ljudi u 42 zemlje i na 21 jeziku širom sveta i da već 27 godina obara sve rekorde gledanosti.
Radi se o revolucionarnoj priči u kojoj se bivši zatvorenik Jean Valjean, nakon odsluženja kazne u zatvoru (gde se našao zbog krađe hleba kako bi prehranio svoju porodicu), pokušava vratiti normalnom životu i povratiti nekadašnji ugled. Ali, radnja se odvija u vreme Pariškog ustanka, 1832. godine, pa Valjean biva upleten u ovaj poslednji pokušaj rušenja francuske monarhije.
Jadnici prenose poruku o bitci običnih ljudi za ravnopravnost, moral i etično društvo, za ideale koji niti danas još nisu potpuno dostignuti i ostaju za mnoge gotovo jednako daleki i neuhvatljivi kao i u vreme pariških ustanaka u 19. veku.
