Liu (Jerry Maguire, Grad zločina, Charliejevi anđeli, Chicago, Kill Bill 1, Domino) i N. Sheridan (Špijuniraj muški, Ninja s Beverly Hillsa), najveće su vrline zabavne, ležerne i nepretenciozne kriminalističke komedije redatelja (Čudo u 34. ulici, Flubber, Plava munja) i TV producenta Lesa Mayfielda (Psycho 4, dokumentarci o stvaranju hitova Bezdan i Jurski park te trilogije Povratak u budućnost).

Kad se jednog jutra mamuran probudi u hotelskoj sobi pokraj ubijenog nepoznatog muškarca, tamnoputi i korpulentni Jake Rodgers (C. the Entertainer) shvati da nema pojma tko je, gdje se nalazi i kako je tu dospio. Otkrivši da je ubijeni bio agent FBI-ja i da je sobom nosio kovčeg pun novca, Jake zgrabi kovčeg i iskrade se iz hotela opkoljenog policijom. Na parkiralištu naleti na atraktivnu plavušu koja mu se predstavi kao njegova supruga Diane (N. Sheridan) te ga preveze do kuće. Otkrije da živi u raskošnoj vili i da je vlasnik tvrtke za proizvodnju čipova, ali Jake sumnja da je sve to što vidi laž. Istodobno mu se počnu vraćati sjećanja na njegovu prošlost FBI-jeva agenta zaduženog za obavljanje najsloženijih zadataka. Jake odluči pobjeći i otkriti tko je uistinu…
