When his parents were killed, millionaire playboy Bruce Wayne relocates to Asia when he is mentored by Henri Ducard and Ra’s Al Ghul in how to fight evil. When learning about the plan to wipe out evil in Gotham City by Ducard, Bruce prevents this plan from getting any further and heads back to his home. Back in his original surroundings, Bruce adopts the image of a bat to strike fear into the criminals and the corrupt as the icon known as ‘Batman’. But it doesn’t stay quiet for long.

Osmogodišnji Brus Vejn slučajno upada u jamu, na imanju svojih bogatih roditelja, gde ga napada jato šišmiša.
Od tada ga progoni strah od šišmiša. A onda, dečak se suočava sa užasnom tragedijom - pred njegovim očima pljačkaš mu ubija roditelje.

Godinama kasnije, Brus je odrastao čovek koga opseda želja da se osveti za smrt roditelja i ubije pljačkaša. Međutim, ne uspeva u tome. Zato odlučuje da upozna svet kriminala i kriminalce, da bi znao kako da im se suprotstavi. Stiže do jednog azijskog zatvora odakle ga izbavlja tajanstveni Henri Dukard, savetujući mu da ode u snežne planine i poseti mističnog učitelja Al Gula.

Brus stiže do učitelja i uz njegovu pomoć savladava tajne borilačkih veština. Međutim, Brus ne želi da svoju novu moć upotrebi za uništenje Gotama, što od njega traži Al Gul. On uništava učiteljev planinski zamak i beži na porodično imanje gde ga dočekuje verni batler Alfred. Svoje borilačke veštine Brus Vejn kombinuje sa tehnološkim čudesima koje je stvorio Lušijus Foks, naučnik koji je radio za njegovog pokojnog oca.

Brus susreće i svoju ljubav iz detinjstva Rejčel. U želji da se obračuna sa rastućim kriminalom, koji je u potpunosti zavladao Gotamom, on oblači kostim koji ga pretvara u simbol njegovih najvećih strahova - šišmiša. Sada, nezaustavljivi čovek šišmiš - Betmen, započinje borbu protiv kriminala.
